In this article, we’ll explore some of the best ChatGPT alternatives and what you should know before choosing one.
If you’re interested in AI technology, chances are that you’ve come across the game-changing chatbot platform called ChatGPT.
This platform has gained popularity insanely quickly and both businesses and individuals are starting to see the potential it has.
But did you know that there are some really good, yet little-known ChatGPT alternatives out there that you can use instead?
All of which can match and in some cases even outperform the original ChatGPT platform.
For a platform to end up on this list, it must have one crucial component. It must have an AI-powered chatbot feature that can help you with questions and content creation.
So, today we’ll take a look at 10 awesome ChatGPT alternatives that you probably didn’t know existed in the first place.
Let’s dive right in.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT from OpenAI is a groundbreaking NLP technology that enables the use and development of chatbots that can converse with humans in a natural, real-time manner.
It was made with the intention of providing a smooth and effortless user experience. The interactive platform allows users to chat with an AI-powered bot that is able to understand the users’ objectives and reply accordingly.
Plus, it can also detect emotions and modify itself according to the context, which helps keep the conversation engaging and relevant.
Furthermore, because ChatGPT is an open-source model, anyone can use it and modify it to suit their requirements. For example, developers can build interactive AI-driven chatbot services.
By using deep learning models like NLP (Natural Language Processing), ChatGPT can generate responses to queries that are both coherent and human-sounding.
But it isn’t just any regular “smart” chatbot. You can also use it to answer pretty much any question imaginable, from:
- Generic “What is” questions
- Asking it to find bugs in codes
- Genarate output based on specific criteria
- Translations
- And more…
Additionally, you can also use it for your own benefit, no matter if it’s for business or personal. Thanks to the advanced algorithms you can generate blog ideas, emails, ads, and much more.
Of course, this is a very slimmed-down explanation of how ChatGPT works. If you want to dive deep into ChatGPT’s functionality, I have a complete article covering that here.
What are the best ChatGPT alternatives?
Finding a ChatGPT alternative that suits your every need isn’t an easy task, especially since there are so many to choose from.
Picking one over the other takes a lot of consideration since every platform comes with its own unique features, advantages and drawbacks.
This is why selecting a platform is mostly based on personal preference…
What is good for me might not be the best option for you.
To give you a helping hand in deciding which one is best for you, here are 10 ChatGPT alternatives to check out:

2: Jasper Chat
Jasper, just like Writesonic, is one of the most popular AI writing tools, and they too have their own AI chatbot called Jasper Chat.
It provides you with a more conversational way of interacting with AI, compared to ChatGPT.
Instead of relying on commands and prompts, you can now converser with the AI, which then will refine its responses the more you engage with it.
As you know OpenAI created ChatGPT, what you might don’t know is that they’re a partner of Jasper’s. This partnership has resulted in Jasper using the GPT-3.5 language model in their platform.
Even though ChatGPT is great, the guys at Jasper thought it needed some refinement. These Improvements made Jasper Chat more usable for everyday businesses.
By making the chatbot business-orientated, they’ve tailored the learning model toward practical usage in business situations. This means a better interface and workflow as well as making it more accessible.
Secondly, since they source from OpenAI and other models (NEO X, T5, Bloom) and their own, Jasper Chat is able to come up with the best combination of models for any specific use-case.
This helps businesses to avoid over-depending on one single source, therefore making the output better.
By adding the chat feature, Jasper shows they intend to keep their position as industry leaders, even though they’re a bit pricy.
Jasper Chat’s main features
- Learns over time: Whenever you crate with Jasper Chat, you can choose to up or down vote the responses it generates. This will help it learn and become more accurate over time. Plus, you can also keep it from using specific messages by hiding them from its memory.
- Built for business: The interface, workflow and learning morels is more tailored towards business use compared to ChatGPT which has a more generic approach.
- Model combinations: Jasper Chat combines models from OpenAI, Neo X, T5, BLOOM and their own to avoid over-relying on one single model. Depending on the use-case, it can figure out which combination of models will be the best.
How much does Jasper Chat cost?
Jasper Chat is only available on the Boss-Mode or business plan, so it’s a subscriber only feature.
The Boss-Mode plan starts at $59/month with a option to get 17% off with the annual plan.

3: LaMDA (Language Model for Dialog Applications)
LaMDA (Language Model for Dialog Applications) is a conversational natural language model developed by Google.
Although it’s not yet available in full to the public, I think it has the potential to become one of the better ChatGPT alternatives.
It’s based on earlier research that was published in 2020, this research focused a lot on chatbots that can talk about…anything.
LaMDA comes with a pre-trained data set containing 1.56 trillion words of publicly available documents and dialog data from the internet. Plus, it’s given extra training with data that has been carefully labeled to ensure that the responses make sense, are interesting, and are appropriate.
All of this training enables it to engage in free-flowing conversations about just about any topic you can imagine.
An interesting thing about LaMDA is that in 2022 a Google engineer claimed it to have become sentient, or conscious.
This sounds amazing, but it has also been mostly rejected by the scientific community, as there are many scientific and philosophical reasons why claims of artificial consciousness are hard to verify.
The main reason why LaMDA isn’t available to the public right now is that Google says it can produce harmful or toxic responses. So it needs more development.
What I like about LaMDA is that it was developed by Google, and we all know that Google has access to tons and tons of data. Data that other companies can only dream of accessing.
LaMDA’s main features
- Built for dialog: LaMDA is trained for human-machine dialog, and it’s able to produce responses that are equal or even superior to humans.
- Doesn’t rely on predefine responses: By understanding context, the demand of the query and the relationship with previous prompts it can generate near instant responses.
- Focus on quality: It uses SSI parameters (sensitivity, specificity and interest) to ensure that the answers make sense in relation to the prompt. Plus, the interest part of the SSI works on making the responses insightful and amusing – making the conversations less “flat”.
How much does LaMDA cost?
As of today LaMDA doesn’t have a price, mainly because it isn’t fully available to the public yet.
If you want to try it you’ll have to sign up for Google’s AI Test Kitchen. Registering there will get you on the waiting list.

4: Perplexity
Perplexity is an AI-powered “Ask Anything” service that is specially built for answering questions.
It acts as a powerful search engine, scouring the internet for relevant information when you ask it a question. It even states on its Twitter page: “The first conversational search engine”.
By using OpenAI GPT-3.5 (ChatGPT originates from this) and search engines it will scour the internet for the best answers to your query. It goes through hundreds of articles in a few seconds, something that would take you hours to do.
Once it has all the information it will compose the best short-answer summary for your query. And for those who want more information, it will also give you a long-form answer to the question. Just switch between “Concise” and “Detailed”.
And when it comes to generating answers, Perplexity will also show the sources it used to create the answer, something the ChatGPT doesn’t do.
Unlike ChatGPT, Perplexity focuses 100% on answering questions, making it more like a search engine than a content creator. Making its usage a bit more limited.
Also, Perplexity is a more unrestricted platform compared to the rest. They even state on their site that it can generate offensive and dangerous content.
Perplexity’s main features
- Simple: There’s no denying it, getting started with Perplexity is super simple. Just go to their website and start typing in your question.
- Resources and citing: Whenever you ask Perplexity a question, it will scour the internet for answers and when it’s done, it will show you exactly what resource it used to come up with the answer.
- Short conversation: Want a five sentence summary of WW2? No problem, every question answered will come with a short-form and a detailed answer. Plus it will also show you related questions.
How much does Perplexity cost?
Perplexity is free to use and you don’t have to create and account to start using it.
Just head over there and start typing…

5: OpenAI Playground
OpenAI Playground is an online programming environment created by the OpenAI research team. It allows you to experiment with training deep learning models with different configurations, observe the results and adjust their parameters in real-time.
Unlike ChatGPT, which is optimized for an interactive experience, OpenAI Playground is made for experimenting with NLP. This also means that it is more advanced to use and not really meant for everyday use.
It can be used for a variety of applications, from predicting text and data, to image recognition and autonomous robotics.
This tool provides an amazing opportunity for people to experiment with language generation. It’s like a literal playground for natural language processing, where you can play around with techniques like named entity recognition, dependency parsing and semantic parsing.
OpenAI Playground also has an interactive visualization of deep learning models, allowing you to explore and understand the inner workings of neural networks.
OpenAI Playground’s main features
- Experimentation: OpenAI’s Playground is very flexible and is perfect if you want to experiment with language models.
- Applications: You can use it for a variety of different applications, such as keyword extraction, explain code, grammar correction, TL;DR summarizer, chat, and many more.
- Fine-tuning: This let’s you customize the model for your needs, allowing you to get the most out of the models available.
How much does OpenAI Playground cost?
To access the playground you need to head over to OpenAI and create an account. This is free and will give you $18 in credits for 3 months. The base model “Davinci” costs $0.020/1K tokens and 1K tokens is roughly 750 words.
Once you’re past 3 months, you’ll have to pay as you go. So the more you use it, the more it’ll cost.
6: Easy-Peasy AI (Marky)
Easy-Peasy AI is an AI writer at its core, just like Jasper and Writesonic, and just like those two, they’ve added a new chatbot feature called Marky.
Marky is pretty much your friendly neighborhood AI that you can converse with by using natural language. Starting a conversation is super simple, just input the query you want an answer to and watch it respond. Just like you’d do in ChatGPT.
How Marky generates its output isn’t clearly stated, but based on the information I could find (which was limited) it seems like they’re using some kind of ChatGPT API to make the chatbot work.
There’s no explicit information stating that they’re using some other data source to refine the bot even more, like ChatSonic incorporated Google data.
If this is the case, then Marky will have the same information restriction as ChatGPT, where it’s only trained on data up to early 2022.
So as you can see it’s very similar to ChatGPT, but it also comes with a complete AI writer suite that makes it more versatile.
And even though it’s very similar, it’s still a competent AI chatbot with a much nicer interface.
Easy-Peasy AI’s main features
- Interface: Marky has a nice and simple interface that makes it very easy to get going.
- Natural language: No special prompts are needed, thanks to the use of NLP you can chat with it using natural language.
- Content: Marky can generate both long and short-form content.
How much does Easy-Peast AI cost?
The AI chatbot Marky is available on Easy-Peasy AI on free trials and all the paid plans.
The Basic paid plan starts at $4.99/month and if you go annual you get two months for free.
7: YouChat
YouChat is a conversational AI made by You.com, which is a search engine.
Just like ChatGPT it can answer questions, explain things, come up with ideas, do translations and summarizations, write emails and even code.
YouChat is powered by GPT-3.5 which is the same model that ChatGPT is built from. And by using natural language processing you can have a human-like conversation with it.
It has a fairly user-friendly interface that works nicely with You.com’s search engine. This allows you to both look up search queries on the web as well as chat with the AI, all from one place.
Unfortunately, YouChat is bound by the same restrictions as ChatGPT, like only being able to comprehend and give answers to topics up until early 2022.
The biggest difference is that, while ChatGPT won’t respond to any queries about events after early 2022, YouChat will.
However, this isn’t without its problems.
Since it doesn’t know anything about these “newer” topics, the responses will be poor or just plain wrong.
All in all, YouChat is great if you need access to both a search engine and a Chatbot AI on the same platform.
Also, keep in mind that this platform is still in beta form and will most likely improve over time.
YouChat’s main features
- Citing: Whenever you ask YouChat something, it’ll always cite the source it used to come up with the answer. This way you can always fact check the output it generates.
- Find precise answers: You’re no longer limited to text-only output. For example, ask it about the price of Bitcoin and it will pull up a chart for you showing its price. From there you can ask further questions.
- Up-to-date: It stays up to date with the latest news and to quote You.com: “YouChat is the first large language model that can answer questions about recent events”.
Go beyond a text-only output and visualize information and with graphs and charts. For example, easily check stock and crypto prices and ask follow up questions.
How much does YouChat cost?
YouChat is free to use and is part of the You.com search engine.

8: Megatron-Turing Natural Language Generation (MT-NLG)
The brainchild of Microsoft and Nvidia is called Megatron-Turning Natural Language Generation (wow that’s a tongue twister) or MT-NLG for short.
By leveraging Microsoft’s DeepSpeed and Nvidia’s Megatron-LM, they’ve achieved the remarkable feat of constructing one of the most comprehensive and powerful transformer language models, which has been trained with 530 billion parameters.
This is a whopping 3x larger than OpenAI’s GPT-3, and GPT-3 wasn’t small by any means.
This incredible 105-layer transformer-based MT-NLG is a major leap forward in technology and surpasses all current models in zero-, one-, and few-shot accuracy.
MT-NLG shows absolutely unparalleled precision in a wide range of natural language activities like completion forecasting, reading comprehension, common sense reasoning, natural language reasoning, word meaning clarification, and so on.
Although all of this sounds awesome, Megatron-Turning is still under development. Meaning that the only way to get access to it is to join the early access program.
In the early access program, you get to work together with Nvidia to solve problems like how to use this technology responsibly.
Megatron-Turning’s main features
- Massive size: With 530 billion parameters it’s 3x the size of GPT-3 with only 175 billion parameters.
- Unmatched accuracy: It demonstrates incomparable accuracy in a variety of natural language tasks such as completion prediction, reading comprehension, commonsense reasoning, and more.
- Powerful transformer model: MT-NLG sets the new benchmark as the largest and most powerful monolithic transformer English language model.
How much does MT-NLG cost?
The only way to access MT-NLG right now is to apply to the early access program.

9: Chinchilla AI
One of the ChatGPT alternatives that has tons of potential is Chinchilla AI developed by DeepMind.
I say that it has potential because the public can’t access it yet since it’s still in the testing phase.
But once it’s released, this AI can be used to develop a variety of different AI tools, such as chatbots, virtual assistants, predictive models, and more.
What’s interesting about Chinchilla is the technology behind it.
Chinchilla with its 70 billion parameters might not sound that impressive at first glance…
However, it stands tall amongst its peers – GPT-3 (175B), Jurassic-1 (178B), Gopher (280B), and Megatron-Turing NLG (530B) – as it functions in a similar way. But the truly exciting part is that Chinchilla AI is expected to be similar in cost to Gopher, and yet it utilizes fewer parameters while still providing 4x more data.
This means that the cost of implementing Chinchilla downstream will be substantially cheaper, compared to other larger models.
It also leaves Gopher, GPT-3, Jurassic-1 and Megatron-Turing NLG in the dust when it comes to downstream evaluation tasks. Moreover, it’s extremely efficient in terms of inference and fine-tuning, requiring much less computational power than the other models.
Chinchilla AI also shows an extremely high average accuracy of 67.5% on the MMLU benchmark. This is a 7% improvement over Gopher.
At the moment it’s suspected that once released to the public it’s going to be a GPT-3 killer.
We’ll just have to wait and see…
Chinchillas main features
- Performance: Chinchilla, with its 70 billion parameters, outperforms both Gopher and GPT-3.
- Easier and cheaper implementation: Since it’s smaller, inference and fine-tuning will cost less and require less computing power. This means that small businesses more easily can implement it.
- Accuracy: It has an impressive 67.5% accuracy on MMLU and 65.1% on BIG-bench. Gopher, which is widely used, scored 60% on MMLU and 54.4% BIG-bench.
How much does Chinchilla AI cost?
Since the Chinchilla AI still is under development and testing there’s no way for the public to access it.
Therefore there’s no pricing structure available.

10: BLOOM
BLOOM (BigScience Language Open-science Open-Access Multilingual) is among the top alternatives for ChatGPT. It’s an open-source, autoregressive Large Language Model (LLM) developed by over 1.000 AI experts from 70+ countries and 250+ institutions, plus the Hugging Face team.
It’s safe to say that BLOOM holds the records for most developers.
While both BLOOM and ChatGPT are providing robust NLP systems, there are a few noteworthy distinctions between them.
For example, it took 384 graphics cards (80GB each) and 176 billion parameters to develop BLOOM. That’s one billion more parameters than OpenAI’s GPT-3 model.
Moreover, it can generate human-like text in 46 languages including Arabic, English, Chinese, Catalan, French, and many more. Plus it can generate code in 13 different languages including Java, PHP, Python, C++, etc.
Performance-wise, ChatGPT takes the win, but not by much. ChatGPT can process 10K messages/second, while BLOOM only can process 8K/second.
Is this performance difference going to make or break your application? Probably not, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you’re on the hunt for a system that can process large amounts of messages.
Developers interested in creating NLP applications have found BLOOM to be a great first choice. Although ChatGPT is very effective, BLOOM has better scalability and adding new features and functions is much simpler.
But the most amazing thing about BLOOM is that all of this is given away for free since it’s open-source. This also means that you can modify it however you like, giving you endless possibilities.
However, if you want to use BLOOM, you’re probably going to need some technical know-how, something that usually isn’t required in the other ChatGPT alternatives.
BLOOM’s main features
- Languages: BLOOM can generate text in 46 languages, plus it can write code in 13 different programming languages.
- Understand unlearned text: It can be instructed to execute text-related tasks it hasn’t had specific training for.
- Easy to use API: BLOOM’s easy to use API makes it simple for developers to quickly implement their models and deploy them in applications.
- Robust and optimized model architectures: Its model architectures are designed to be robust and optimized for different NLP tasks. This ensures that users get the best performance when using BLOOM for their NLP tasks.
How much does BLOOM cost?
This is an open-source project meaning that you can access it for free. All you have to do is to head over to Hugging Face, create an account and give it a try.

Why consider the ChatGPT alternatives?
ChatGPT is a great platform, but it’s not the only platform on the market anymore. Nowadays there are a bunch of other capable alternatives out there that will give ChatGPT a run for its money.
The main advantage of using an alternative platform is that it provides you with a more varied range of features to accommodate many different types of scenarios.
Most of the platforms on this list have features that ChatGPT doesn’t have, such as the integration of Google’s latest data and copywriting features for example.
Although ChatGPT is very good, it does come with limitations, such as:
- ChatGPT relies on pre-trained data and is only trained on data up to early 2022. This means that it will struggle to understand and respond to questions about “newer” topics.
- It’s pretty “flat”. What I mean by this is that it can “only” do one thing. It’s a chatbot that pretty much can create anything you want, but that’s the only feature it has.
- No support for voice commands.
- ChatGPT doesn’t have an official API…yet. OpenAI is working on this.
- Oftentimes, when you try to access it, you’ll see an error message saying “ChatGPT is at capacity right now”.
- Although it’s free to use right now, this is about to change in the near future. This will make alternatives more appealing.
Alternative platforms can be a great substitute for ChatGPT
Whether you’re looking for a platform that’s simpler and easier to use, or one with advanced NLP and deep learning features, I can promise you this…
There are without a doubt ChatGPT alternatives out there that’ll meet your needs.
Many of them also come with a bunch of supporting tools like tutorials, foolproof dashboards and invaluable, fast-responding customer support.
And most of the time, the alternatives are better suited to your unique needs compared to ChatGPT.
Whether you want the option to select personas for a conversation or integrate it into your custom apps (ChatSonic can do both).
So, if you’re looking for an AI-powered chatbot platform that offers simplicity, more features, better support and reliability, then you should look into any of the above ChatGPT alternatives.
Because, there are some very capable solutions out there.
What to look for in good ChatGPT alternatives?
When sorting through the ChatGPT alternatives, there are a few things you should consider.
1. Features
First, make sure the platform you’re interested in has the features you need.
Do you need thing like:
- Natural language processing
- Ability to create long-form content
- API integrations
- Machine learning
- SEO capabilities
- A customizable interface
As you can see there are more to an AI-tool that just a chatbot.
Or at least it is if you intend to use it for business purposes.
As a entrepreneur it’s only fair to want more than just one feature, and the best thing to do is to see what all the ChatGPT alternatives have to offer in form of features.
Sometimes you’ll see that a platform comes with features that you didn’t knew you needed, but if you had it, it would make your life so much easier and efficient.
2. Support
The second thing you need to ensure is that the platform you like has good customer support. You don’t want to be stuck with a software that can’t provide you with the help you need, when you need it.
Since AI is a relatively new thing to hit the market, the platforms offering AI services are constantly improving and updating their software.
And when something is under constant development, bugs will sometimes slip through the cracks and cause you problems. That’s the reality of new software.
Therefore it’s important that you can get fast and good help when you encounter a problem you can’t figure out on your own.
3. Pricing
An important thing to check when choosing between the ChatGPT alternatives it to ensure that the pricing is reasonable.
This pricing of a software is most of the time directly related to the features. Typically, the more features you need/want, the more expensive it tends to get.
There are also free alternatives that might suit your needs perfectly, then that is the most wallet-friendly alternative.
All in all, you don’t want to be paying too much for a chatbot platform with some cool features.
Features eats up budgets quickly, so you don’t want to be paying for things you don’t use.
But if you have to pay for a platform, how much should you spend?
Like I said earlier, if you can find a free alternative that fits your needs, go for it!
However, if you need to pay a monthly fee for a platform, most start at around $29 a month for a fairly solid feature set.
Looking across the entire spectrum of platforms, it seems like between $29 and $49/month is the starting point for a AI-writer with a decent amount of words, features (chatbot included).
The paid alternative however almost always comes with a 14-day free trial, so you don’t need to feel obligated to get any subscription right away.
4. Ease of use
Finally, make sure the platform is easy to use.
Whatever you do, don’t get in over your head…
Look at your current knowledge and skill level and see how that matches up to the platforms you like.
You want to be able to set up and manage your AI chatbot and its features quickly and easily.
Even though a platform is capable of world domination, it might be way too complex for you to use.
And once you get into the platforms that need coding to get things going, it’s no longer for beginners.
Platforms like BLOOM and MT-NLG are targeting developers with coding experience.
If it’s too advanced, you’ll just get overwhelmed, frustrated and quit. Maybe you even abandon the whole concept of using AI because of it.
Instead, what you should look for is something that is simple, yet powerful, where you can enjoy the process of working with an AI.
A little tip is also to see if you can grow with the platform.
Because once you’re comfortable working with it, you might want to scale and experiment with more advanced things.
Is ChatGPT going to replace Google Search?
The short answer is no.
It’s unlikely that ChatGPT will replace Google Search as the world’s go-to search engine anytime soon.
While ChatGPT has tremendous potential and can theoretically be used for search, it wasn’t designed for that purpose.
It doesn’t have the same type of algorithms that Google uses for its search engine. ChatGPT doesn’t crawl the internet to find and index information like Google does.
Instead, it relies heavily on trained data to generate responses.
However, ChatGPT is advanced enough to be used as a search engine to some extent.
Since the AI is trained on real-life text from the internet, it can use that information to compile more personalized and relevant responses.
So, while it may not completely replace Google, it can certainly be a great alternative for certain types of searches.
Also, Google has developed a similar product, LaMDA, which is designed to better understand natural language and provide more accurate search results.
Conclusion
ChatGPT is a great chatbot platform, but there are other great alternatives out there.
If you’re looking for a chatbot platform with more features, better customer support, or better pricing, then you should consider looking into ChatGPT alternatives.
When choosing a chatbot platform, make sure to consider the features, customer support, pricing, and ease of use.
With the right AI-powered chatbot platform you can get answers to your questions, generate content, and give your current/new apps an AI boost.
