In this article, we’ll explore how you can use AI to write articles faster than ever before.

  2. Identify keywords and phrases: Then you should (recommended) make a list of relevant keywords and phrases that your target audience are using when they search for stuff online.
  3. Create an outline: Based on your keywords, you now need to create an outline of the article that contains the main points you want to cover.
  4. Generate the content: Now it’s time for the fun part where you get to use your AI writing software to generate articles for every keywords on your list.
  5. Edit and refine the content: Once you have a draft, it’s about time to edit and refine the content to make sure it is engaging and relevant. Also, ensure that your article is grammatically correct and natural-sounding.
  6. Optimize for SEO: The last thing to do before publishing is to optimize your content for SEO by incorporating relevant keywords, phrases and semantic keywords. This might take a bit of re-writing, but it’s totally worth it.
  7. Publish: The last thing you need to do is to publish your new article on your website so search engines can index it.

How to write articles using AI – step-by-step!

Alright, so it’s time to start writing your article using AI.

To do this you need two things…

First, you need a keyword or a key phrase and an idea of what you want your article to cover.

Second, in order to do any AI writing at all, you need an AI writing software. And if you don’t want to commit right away, you can relax, most have free trials.

For this example, I’ll be using Writesonic, since that’s my favorite AI tool.

However, there are more alternatives available, I even have a guide on some of the best ones right here.

With that out of the way, let’s write an article using the power of AI.

Step #1: Fire up Writesonic

The first thing to do before any writing can take place is to sign in to Writesonic so you can access the dashboard.

If you don’t have a Writesonic account, you can try it for free here.

Step #2: Pick a template

Next it’s time to pick a use case that can write long-form content. Luckily for use, Writesonic has just the right thing.

Go to the Library to find all the templates, then Article and Blogs.

From there you need to find the Article Writer 4.0.

This template uses AI to write up to 3K-word SEO-friendly articles in 3 easy steps. It also gives you the ability to choose keywords, tones, language, CTAs and point-of-view.

Step #3: Get keywords

When you first start up the Article Writer 4.0, it will take you to step 0, which actually is a extra help step.

There are two ways to go here…

If you don’t have any keywords, and just know what you want your article to be about, enter it in the Topic field and hit Search Keywords.

I’ll be using the topic idea ‘backpacking’ for this to get my keywords for a backpacking guide article.

This will automatically do some keywords research for you.

When it’s done, Writesonic will display around 30 keywords, including their volume, difficulty and traffic.

All you have to do now is to choose the ones that fit your article the best and hit the Next button at the top. (I found two that’ll be a good fit for my guide).

The other way is if you already have keywords and phrases prepared from earlier.

Then all you have to do is to enter them in the Keywords field and click Next.

Pro tip: To ensure high content quality, only add keywords that are closely related to each other. There’s also no need to add more than one keyword if that’s all you’ve got.

Step #4: Generate ideas

Now it’s time to generate some ideas for your article.

As you can see, Writesonic has auto-populated both the topic and the keyword fields from the previous step.

From here, you need to set Tone of Voice, Point of View (typically always First Person) and Language. I’ll get to the CTA shortly.

Then click Generate to get some H1 heading ideas for your article.

For my article, I’ll go for an excited tone to get the reader excited about backpacking.

Once you find a idea that you like, click on it to select it and it will automatically take you to the next step.

Pro tip: You can generate as many of these as you like, and I suggest that you try a few different tones just to see what it comes up with.

Step #5: Pick an outline

Alright, pretty much halfway there now…

And now it’s time to figure out an outline for your article.

As you can see, Writesonic remembers the title, keywords, tone and POV from the previous step. So all you really have to do is click Generate Outlines.

The AI will now come up with some ideas for your article outline (aka. all your H2 headings).

When you’ve generated the outline you like, click on it and it will take you to the next step.

Pro tip #1: Try different tones to find an outline that matches what you need.

Pro tip #2: The AI will generate outlines in sets. But if you find that there are heading form different sets that you’d like to use, check the Select Individual Outlines at the top. This allows you to pick headings manually.

Pro tip #3: If you have your own headlines you’d like to add, whatever you do, don’t add them now by editing the sets. The editor freaks out and forgets how to do spaces and things. You can add them in the next step.

Step #6: Generate the article draft

Now it’s time to use the AI to write the initial draft for your article.

If you look to the left, you’ll see that the software remembers the title, keywords and heading from the earlier steps.

What you need to do at this point is to set the tone, and now is also the time to add a call-to-action if you have one. It’s not necessary to add a CTA to be able to generate an article.

But if you do, this feature will incorporate it into your article automatically which is a nice touch.

Also, if you click and hold on the dotted field to the left of the headlines, you can drag them around and rearrange them.

Plus, you can add and remove headings buy clicking the + and – buttons. Meaning that you now also can add your own headings if you have any.

When you’re done, click Generate Article and Writesonic will create an article for you (including a royalty free post image).

For my backpacking article, the AI generated 1.575 words (8666 character) long article. And even as a novice backpacker myself, this article looks pretty good.

And all we’ve done is fill in some fields with information, taking us a total time of 12 minutes.

Pro tip: If you don’t like the first draft, you can generate more with different tones and CTAs.

Step #7: Edit the article

Okay, so your article draft is officially done.

Now it’s time to finalize it by adding your own touch to it, fact check things, and SEO optimize it.

Luckily for you, this can all be done inside Writesonic.

In fact there’s a button at the top of your newly generated article that says Edit this article with our Google Docs like Sonic Editor.

Click on it and the entire draft will be imported into the Sonic Editor.

Here you can do a bunch of things, so I’ll break it down by the navigation bar at the top of the Sonic Editor.

Focus mode: Here you can work with your article with the help of some AI tools. To start you have the General tab to the right, by highlighting a section of your text, the AI can continue writing it. Up to 1K words can be written at once with varying levels of creativity. You can also highlight text and rephrase, expand, or shorten it.

Step #8: Publish

Your article is edited, optimized and personalized, now it’s time to publish it to your site.

This is also super easy and can in fact be done with one click…most of the time.

Okay, you have to be using WordPress for it to work, but millions of websites are using that so I almost expect you to do the same.

Anyway, to export your article into WordPress, click the little upload icon at the top right corner. Then select the WordPress alternatives at the bottom of the menu (it works for both .com and .org).
