But how does it really work?
Essentially, Writesonic analyzes existing online content and user input to generate unique, tailored pieces.
This approach ensures a blend of originality and relevance, making it a valuable asset for anyone looking to enhance their digital presence.
What type of content can you create with Writesonic?
The versatility of Writesonic is truly remarkable, catering to a wide variety of content needs.

Sample of a long-form article generated with Writesonic’s AI Article Writer 5.0
What good is this review if you can’t see the results you can expect from using Writesonic.
So let’s do that now, by creating an article from scratch using the 5.0 version of the AI article writers.
For this one, I’ll generate an article on the topic: What is SEO.
First we’ll find some articles that already ranks for this and pick the ones we like to be our reference material.
Then we’ll set the parameters for the article: like tone, keywords and any additional information.
And before we press generate, we’ll have to go through the final check the tells us how many words this will cost us.
Now we wait and let the AI do it’s thing.
This generation got us a 1,000 words article in just under 30 seconds, nice. This article covers the topic pretty well, and the quality is very nice. It actually sound like something I could have written (but not in 30 seconds).
However, for me, this article needs a bit more meat on the bones before publishing. Luckily for us, we can easily expand and add more information in the AI Editor.
But how does this article stand in the world of plagiarism?
Let’s use the built in tool and find out…
Turns out it was 100% original.
Who is Writesonic for?
Writesonic is not just for seasoned writers or marketing professionals; it’s a versatile tool designed for anyone looking to streamline their content creation process.
This includes small business owners who want to enhance their online presence without the hefty cost of hiring a professional writer.
It’s also ideal for startup founders who need to create a wide range of content on a tight budget and timeline.
Freelancers can leverage Writesonic to increase their productivity and take on more projects, while students and researchers can use it to structure and refine their writing.
Even marketing agencies can benefit from its efficiency, allowing them to deliver high-quality content at a faster pace.
The beauty of Writesonic lies in its accessibility – it requires no prior technical knowledge, making it a perfect fit for anyone with a story to tell or a product to sell.
What is Writesonic good at?
I don’t know If you’ve trid an AI writer tool before, but I know I have. And unfortunately, some overpromise and underdeliver in terms of the content you can create.
However, with Writesonic that’s not the case and to make it a one-stop-shop for writing needs, they’ve training their AI model on top-shelf content and copy. Meaning that you can both easily and confidently generate content the is both coherent and relevant.
No wonder I’ve stayed with them since the launch back in october 2022.
But what is it that I actually like about Writesonic?
Let’s find out.
Easy to use
One of the first things that struck me with Writesonic is that it’s very easy to use, even if you’ve never worked with an AI writer before.
Sure there is a bit of a learning curve, but so that’s only natural when you do something new.
Once you get the hang of the Writesonic interface, you’ll quickly see that you are no more than two clicks away from any AI tool.
The first thing you’ll encounter is the main menu, where all the main tools are displayed right away. To the left you also have easy access to the core functions like Brand and Photosonic.
The rest of the available tools can be found inside the AI Editor, where everything is neatly placed in the left sidebar.
Writesonic also has a nice workflow which pretty much always looks like this:
- Pick the tool you need to solve your writing needs.
- Follow the steps inside the tool.
- Accept the output.
- Writesonic automatically moves the content to the AI Editor from where it can be refined.
I doesn’t get much simpler.
Long-from content
You know just as well as me that writing long-form content takes a fair bit of time.
This means that you’ll have high expectations of an AI writer that says it can do long-form content. Sure, ad copy and headlines are easy for AI, but what about an entire blog post.
And I think that you’ll be surprises at how well Writesonic meets your expectations.
Their flagship features, the AI Article Write 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 takes creating long-form content to a whole new level.
The 3.0 and 4.0 versions both have very similar approaches to content. Give it a topic or a keywords, pick a headline and a outline, then watch the AI as it creates your article.
However, the 5.0 version takes article creations to the next level.
What you do now is to enter a topic, then the AI will search the internet for the top ranking articles on that topic.
Then you can select up to 10 articles to be included as informational pieces for the AI to work from.
In the creation process, the AI will consider things like: information, structure, headlines, word count, and more to generate an article that covers the topic in depth.
All based on your competitors data and content the already ranks.
But if you like to start from scratch, you can do that too using Writesonic’s AI Editor.
Not only can you start typing down what’s in your head here, but you can also refine and expand your content using AI tools. Essentially helping you to go from idea to reality much faster.
And even if writer’s block is holding you back, you have a “Ask AI” feature right next to the cursor ready to help.
High content quality
Tired of spending endless hours struggling to create content that truly resonates with your audience?
Look no further, because Writesonic is here to revolutionize your content creation process.
Honestly, I’m very impressed by the quality of output Writesonic generates.
Unlike many other AI writers that often produce incoherent and sometimes downright goofy text, Writesonic consistently delivers copy that maintains a professional and refined voice.
One of the standout features of Writesonic is its remarkable customization options.
You have the power to adjust the tone of your content to perfectly align with your brand’s unique voice (using the Brand Voice feature). Whether you’re aiming for your usual friendly and encouraging tone or something a bit more witty and sarcastic, Writesonic has you covered.
You can even fine-tune the the AI by feeding it unique information about your business in the Knowledge Base.
Moreover, Writesonic offers an array of tools that allow you to set your preferred tone of voice.
Want your copy to exude excitement? Writesonic can do that. Need something that’s more humorous or light-hearted? No problem, Writesonic can handle it.
The versatility of this platform makes it a valuable asset for you who seeking to engage your audience in various ways.
What truly sets Writesonic apart from the crowd is its ability to produce content that feels extremely human.
There’s no awkward or forced AI-like language here – just natural, authentic text that effortlessly connects with your target audience.
Can be trained on your unique brand
As I just mentioned above, Writesonic can be both trained on your unique voice as well as specific information about your brand.
So you don’t have to spend all those hours adjusting text to match your sound, since the AI now already knows how you speak.
I know this sounds complicated, but it’s actually very easy to add unique information to the Writesonic.
All you need to do is to pick out one article that you have written that you are extra proud of, then click analyze.
After just a few seconds, Writesonic will come up with a specific tone and style that matches that of the content you uploaded. This way you can unser that every piece generated matches your brands’ natural voice.
From there, you can use this tone in many of the features and tools (not all yet).
The beauty of this is that you can add as many “Voices” as you like, so you can have one for blog posts, one for sales, and one for email.
Recently they also added a Knowledge Base function that allows you to provide the AI with unique information about you or your business.
This will then influence the AI to write in such a way that it matches your values.
Large variety of tools
Writesonic is not your run-of-the-mill AI writer; it’s a versatile powerhouse that extends far beyond traditional content creation.
While we’ve already talked about how it can generate top-notch written content, Writesonic’s arsenal of tools goes even further, making it an valuable asset for all things related to the written word.
Sure, Writesonic excels at crafting engaging blog posts, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg…
It has an impressive range of capabilities, from providing instant ad copy to generating catchy smooth talking emails that even you mother will love, it can do it all.
Picture this: You need inspiration for your next YouTube video or are seeking recommendations to fuel your content strategy. Writesonic has you covered with its content recommendations and YouTube video idea generation features.
It doesn’t stop there; Writesonic also offers valuable insights into business growth tips and hacks, helping you steer your ship in the right direction.
This really is a comprehensive solution that can help you streamlines your content creation and marketing efforts.
Image generation
Tired of the endless search for compelling images to complement your content?
Well you can stop now, for Writesonic’s Photosonic tool is about to change that!
If you’re not a professional designer, finding or creating eye-catching visuals can be a real challenge. Ask me how I know, I’m definetly not a designer and finding good images always take way too long.
While you might have heard of AI image generation tools like DALL-E or Midjourney, Writesonic’s Photosonic is lesser known of but just as good, or slightly even better.
What truly sets Photosonic apart is its seamless integration within the Writesonic platform. Compare this to Midjourney, which is a hassle to access. Honestly,
No more navigating to multiple tools to generate visuals for your content; it’s all conveniently built-in. With Writesonic, you’re looking at a one-stop-shop for all your content creation needs, from text to visuals.
Which is awesome, and I like not having to deal with tons of tools if I don’t have to.
But what about the quality, you may ask?
Well, brace yourself for some impressive results.
I’ve been downright stunned by the images Photosonic can churn out – often surpassing the output of other image generators. But it does take some practice to get good at it, my first ones looked like a duck went through a blender, ouch.
The technology behind Photosonic (Stable Diffusion) is nothing short of remarkable. Compared to Dall-E, SD generates more photorealistic pictures and compared to Midjourney, SD is more customizable.
ChatSonic is included
Now, let’s talk about Chatsonic, one of Writesonic’s standout features. This is basically their own version of ChatGPT.
So you don’t have to feel like you’re missing out in ChatGPT just because you wanted a all-in-one AI writing platform.
Essentially, this dynamic chatbot enables you to generate website copy, AI-generated imagery, and research material with ease.
And the chat function is nearly identical to ChatGPT as well, making it very familiar. Plus, you can use the same prompts in ChatSonic as the ones you use in ChatGPT.
The beauty of Chatsonic lies in its versatility. You can communicate with it through a variety of ways, providing a significant advantage over other AI writing tools that rely solely on typed inputs.
So whether you like decide to use text, a document, audio, image or URL, ChatSonic can do it all.
What I also really like about ChatSonic is that it has access to Google data, which makes it capable of generating very factual and up-to-date answers.
SEO and keyword research
If you know anything about publishing content online, you know just how important SEO and keyword research is.
You also know how expensive tools that can help you with that are.
But not anymore…
Writesonic now has a built-in feature for both SEO and keyword research.
With the Keyword feature, you can enter a topic and have the AI do the research for you. When it’s done it will provide you with a difficulty score, volume, total traffic to top pages, keywords and questions.
And with one click you can generate an article based around selected keywords.
Sure it’s not as advanced as Ahrefs or Spyfu, but it will point you in the right direction.
The SEO Optimizer feature allows you to also analyze the content inside the AI Editor and give it a SEO score.
This makes it easy to see what improvements you need to make before you publish to have a good chance of ranking.
You will get data on things like:
- Current content SEO score
- Number of words
- Headings
- Paragraphs
- Images
- Competitor keywords
- Long-tail keywords
- Common competitor terms
All of this data should make it easier for you to improve your content.
There is also a function that allows you to rewrite your article automatically and have the AI improve the content based on the data from the SEO analysis. This function is currently in beta mode.
What are Writesonic’s disadvantages?
Honestly, Writesonic is a solid writing tool that can help you with a lot of things, but it’s not without its flaws. I mean, even the sun have spots and imperfections.
I believe that these are the things that remove half a start from a full five star rating.
And for a review to be complete, you need to know what things to be aware of before you decide if Writesonic is right for you or not.
Issue no.1: Word output
One of the thing you don’t imagine an AI writer to have issues with is word output. And depending on what you’re writing, this could be problematic.
Here’s what the AI article writes say they can do in terms of word output:
- Instant article writer – Up tp 1,000 words.
- AI article writer 3.0 – Up to 1,500 words.
- AI article writer 4.0 – Up to 3,000 words.
- AI article writer 5.0 – up to 2,500 words.
These numbers looks awesome, but my experience is that a article with a good structure doesn’t reach these numbers.
The trend I could see is that most output ends up in the 1,000 to 1,500 word range, and I’ve never seen a output near 3,000 words in one go.
What I’ve seen is that word output is directly related to the number of headlines your article has. More headings equals more words.
This is due to the fact that without being able to specifying paragraph length, the AI tries to explain the headline in as few words as possible. In terms of word output capabilities GPT-3.5 is actually better than GPT-4, believe it or not.
As a blogger who writes a lot of long-form content (+2,000 words), there is more to be desired here since I rarely reach the promised word output.
Honestly, it takes some finageleing to generate articles that are close to the promised word length in one go with the AI article writers.
And if you write a lot of long, word-heavy content, then be prepared to still have to do some or a lot of manual editing.
On the up side, there are tools that can help you with expanding your articles inside the AI Editor.
Issue no.2: The free trial
I can already hear you say: “How can a free trial be a problem…?”
But yes it is a problem.
Writesonic’s free trial lets you take the platform for a spin without having to pay a dime, awesome right?
On paper it’s awesome, but in reality there is more to be desired from this free trial.
The first thing that I notice is that the free trial only comes with 10,000 words/month. And sure this sounds like just about 13% of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone clocking in at 76,944 words.
But, for me, who writes a lot of 2,500+ words articles, it means that I can write four post per month, which isn’t a whole lot.
However, this isn’t the truth either, because sometimes the AI will produce content that is no where near what you’d expected, which means that you need to regenerate. Sometimes I burn 30K words on regeneration and experimentation when I use the AI writers, that’s 3X the free trial in 10 minutes.
This leaves you having to choose which tools to use in the Writesonic suite you can use before your words are gone for the month.
But over all, the free trial is great for exploring the platform and its features, but I would not rely on it to produce at any capacity. That would require a paid plan in my mind.
Issue no.3: Steep learning curve
With 100+ features, Writesonic’s interface can be a mess to navigate, especially for new users. I feel like they have been focusing more on features and upgrades rather than user-experience.
However, the user-experience has gotten much better in the last few months, making the platform much easier to navigate. And I think that they are working hard on making the UX better, since there are improvements in every update.
One thing that still makes things confusing is that the same tools can be displayed in multiple categories, making it hard to know if it’s the same tool or a different one.
Also, some tools can sound very similar when looking at them, which can make it difficult to know which tool to select.
One thing that Writesonic do a lot is update their tools, which is nice and a version number can be seen next to the tool. But you can’t really see what the update has done, a little changelog hover button would be nice.
Issue no.4: The project system
Writesonic has something called projects, that is meant to make it easier to keep track of your writing projects.
This means a folder system that saves the tools and its writings in one neat place.
All great on the paper, but lately this has become a mess to be honest.
It used to work really well and keeping track of folders, tools and project was easy, but in a recent update this changed.
I don’t know what happened but it doesn’t work well anymore.
Folders disappear and finding your created documents is not intuitive at all at the moment. I had to resort to only having one folder with everything in to.
Hopefully they’ll solve this in a future update, so you’ll get a better experience.
Issue no.5: One complaint about the editor
The AI Editor (prev. Sonic Editor) is, as they say themselves, a Google docs-style editor enhanced with AI. The goals is to have a document editor with AI tools only a click away which overall works pretty good.
And I really only have one complaint about the editor…
Whether you use the AI article writers of go here directly, at some point you will end in the AI Editor.
Since this is the place where the bulk of your article editing will take place.
And like I said 99% of this feature is great, but one thing bugs me…
Not too long ago, they removed my favorite writing aid, which was the automatic grammar correction. This tool was always active whenever you were in the AI Editor and noticed you on spelling and word structure on the fly.
This was an amazing feature that not only helped me with grammar correction, but also made me a better writer overall. This since I write in English even though it isn’t my native language (did you notice that).
Please Writesonic, bring this back, I think many other will benefit from this tool just like I did.
Issue no.6: Superior vs Premium words
Whenever I mention Writesonic, I always mention this, and this review is no exception.
The Premium vs Superior word switch possibility nice and all, but it’s also super confusing unless you really understand AI.
Yes, I get it, its more recourse demanding to use GPT-4 compared to GPT-3.5.
But for the love of something holy, don’t let language models determine how much a user can write.
Because your word count takes a hefty hit if you switch from GPT-3.5 to GPT-4. 800,000 words (in my case) becomes 133,334, that’s 6X less words.
Here’s basically what you need to know about Writesonic’s Premium and Superior words.
Premium Words | Superior Words |
---|---|
Language model: GPT-3.5 | Language model: GPT-4 |
Reasoning: 60% | Reasoning: 99% |
Speed: 99% | Speed: 60% |
Conciseness: 60% | Conciseness: 80% |
As you can see Superior is better at “thinking” while Premium is all about speed. Do what you want with that information, but it’s good to know what they charge words for.
What I’d like to see in Writesonic to make it better
Writesonic is a solid platform, but for this review to be complete I like to tell you what I think would make it a homerun in my opinion.
Because there is one thing that I believe is missing that leaves a lot of power on the table.
And it’s ties directly to one of Writesonic’s flagship features.
I’m talking about the AI article writers.
What this feature need is a function that allows the user to define a word target the AI should aim for when writing.
One way of doing this would be to let the user set a desired word length for the entire post, say 1,800 words.
I’ve seen this is in one other AI software before (if I just could remember which it was).
Adding this would turn the AI article writers from a writing companion into a powerful content weapon.
However, a above and beyond addition would be if they added a paragraph length variable.
This would put Writesonic in a class of itself and create an amazing user experience.
Because if you can specify the length of paragraphs to say 150 or 200 words, you can avoid the AI generating thin content and short articles.
I would love to see this, and if the team over at Writesonic reades this, consider adding it.
Writesonic pricing and plans
Okay, now that you know what Writesinic is good and also what it’s not so good at, it’s time to see how much it will cost you.
Because, even though features are important, the pricing is typically a massive deciding factor when picking a tool.
You obviously want to know if your getting value for your money and also how it compares to the competitors. And before I forget, Botsonic is now a standalone product and won’t be included here.
So, let’s have a look at writesonic’s pricing structure and plans.
Is there any discounts on Writesonic plans?
The obvious first question I hear you say right now is: c’mon where’s the discounts at?
Which makes me feel obligated to start by saying that, yes, there is a discount available on the Writesonic plans.
And I don’t blame you at all for asking this…it’s natural to want to get a good (or better) deal.
I mean, if you can save a buck, why not do so, you wallet will thank you later.

Audiosonic – A Standalone Feature
Turning text into audio is not included in the regular Writesonic feature list.
So if this is something you want to do, here’s what it cost:
- 20 seconds seem to be included in the Small Team Plan.
- $10 for 40 minutes: Ideal for small projects.
- $25 for 100 minutes: Perfect for medium-length audio content.
- $50 for 200 minutes: A cost-effective choice for larger projects.
- $100 for 400 minutes: For extensive audio generation requirements.
These minutes are valid for six months from the initial purchase date.
What do you get for your money (Main feature list)
Alright, this wouldn’t be a Writesonic review written by me if I didn’t go overboard and covered everything in ridiculous detail.
If you’ve read any of my other posts on this site, you’ll quickly see that pattern.
And also, I want to cover it all to ensure that you know what your getting yourself into.
Note: Depending on which of the Writesonic plans you choose, the features available will vary.
So, here are the main features you get, at the time of me writing this (on a Small Team plan):
Brand Voice
Want your AI generated content to have the same sound and writing style as you do?
That’s exactly what the Brand is for.
Have the analyze text written by you in order to come up with a tone profile that matches your brand.
The cool thing is that you can have multiple brands trained on different writing styles. So you can have one you use for sales and another for casual blog writing for example.
Plus, recently, they also added a new section to this called “Knowledge Base”.
This basically allows you to give the AI unique knowledge about your brand, which then is used in the generated content.
AI Article Writer 3.0, 4.0 & 5.0
If you’re an article writer, then you’re going to love the AI boost you’re about to get.
Both the AI article writer 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 are built around the same architecture and allows you to quickly generate article drafts.
The 3.0 version is the simplest and can generate articles up to 1,500 words through a simple four step process.
Version 4.0 is a bit more advance and can generate SEO-friendly blog articles in just three steps.
The latest addition, version 5.0, is the most advanced yet. With this one, you can generate factual and up-to-date articles that are up to 2,500 words long.
But instead of steps guiding you through the process, the Article Writer 5.0 creates articles by either analyzing your already existing content pieces or up to five competitor articles.
Article Rewriter
The article rewriter is a cool feature that can come in handy at times.
Simply copy an article, paste it in the rewriter, and click “submit” to rewrite it all.
One click, a minute of AI work, and you’ll have an entirely new article in front of you.
Use this kind of power with care.
AI Editor (prev. Sonic Editor)
Okay, the AI Editor is probably the place you’ll spend the most time at if you write a lot of long-form content.
Whether you start with a blank page of have a steaming hot article comigh right out of the AI article writers, this is the place you end up in.
From there it’s all about building and editing your new masterpiece.
Here you get easy access to a bunch of AI tools, like:
Templates
These are AI-powered templates that can help you write anything from a bullet lists to entire paragraphs.
Once you’re happy with the generated result, click on “Insert Into Article”, and poof, there it is.
You can see all these features in the next section of this article.
Highlight Features
The Highlight Features is a pretty new thing inside Writesonic, but oh so useful.
Here you can take you article and generate things like: meta tags, short summary, Facebook post, email, media pitch and more.
It basically takes the information in the editor and turns it into a suitable format for whatever you choose in the highlight menu.
Plagiarism Checker
Worried about your content being too similar to another one out there on the interwebb?
Now you can do plagiarism checks on your content right inside the editor. But be aware that it will cost you around 500 words to do so.
SEO Optimizer
Another recently added feature is the SEO optimizer.
When you’re done with your article, you can have Writesonic scan it, analyze it and see how SEO friendly it is.
When it’s done, it will show you a SEO score as well as keywords that your competitors are ranking for on that term.
Very similar to what SurferSEO does, but not as expensive.
There is currently also a beta feature that can rewrite your article to improve it’s SEO score based on the analysis. Note: this feature was still under development whe I wrote this, and the results I got with this automatic rewrite was not that good.
Keyword Research
If you’re into creating content around popular keywords, then you’re in luck.
Recently, Writeconic added a keyword research function that allows you to research popular keywords right inside the platform. Pretty handy if you ask me.
This feature will give you data on things like:
- Difficulty
- Volume
- Traffic
- Keywords + semantically related ones and questions
- How hard each keywords is to rank for
The nice thing here is that you can mark the ones you want to use and then directly insert them into for example the AI Article Writer 4.0.
I would definitely like to see this feature added to the main welcome page of Writesonic, making it easier to access.
Audiosonic
Audiosonic is exactly what it sounds like, it can turn text into spoken audio using AI.
As I mentioned, this is not part of the standard Writesonic feature set, making it a separate pay-as-you-go addon.
I haven’t personally used this, but I imagine that it could be useful if you run, let’s say, a podcast.
Botsonic (now standalone)
Botsonic is a no-code chatbot creation tools that allows you to build and integrate AI-powered chatbots into your solutions.
The applications are many ranging from support bots and AI assistants, to Custom GPTs.
It used to be part of the regular feature set, but as of September 1st 2023, it’s a standalone product.
And since this review is about the main content tool Writesonic, I’ll feel like Botsonic is best suited in a review of its own.
Chatsonic
Ever heard of ChatGPT?
Well this is Writesonics answer to that.
Basically, this is a chat interface where you can talk to the AI, asking it questions or giving it instructions (prompts).
If you’re interested in learning more, I have an article comparing Chatsoinc to ChatGPT right here.
Photosonic
If you want to turn text into images, then Writesonic got your back with the Photosonic feature.
With this you can literally tell the AI in plain text what type of image you want, and it will generate it for you.
It uses Stable Diffusion to generate images for basically whatever you need. So say goodbye to expensive stock images.
I will say this, it takes a bit of practice to get good at generating images using AI. And Photosonic is limited to a maximum resolution of 768 x 512px.
Bulk Generate
Creating a lot of content is a lot of work, but it can be made easier.
With Bulk Generate you can get a lot of work done in a short period of time. Just drag in a .CSV or Excel file and let the AI get to work.
This is however limited to shorter form content like: emails, product descriptions, various ads, keyword extraction and more.
But you can generate longer from content if you want, the only this is that you are limited to the Instant Article Writer feature.

Well, it depends on what you need AI for…

But if you need a AI capable of coding and programming, then probably not.
And if you don’t know if you need Writesonic or not, I have a guide that’ll make it easier for you to make a decision on what you need here.
Now I’d like to hear from you:
Are you going to try Writesonic yourself?
