ClickFunnels WordPress Plugin: The Ultimate Guide (2022 update)

How to use ClickFunnels WordPress plugin

Do you know that you can seamlessly integrate the funnels you’ve built inside ClickFunnels with your WordPress site using the ClickFunnels-Wordpress plugin.

How convenient, right?

Now you can build funnels and with a platform you know and love, and still use them on your website.

Because both you and I know that ClickFunnels is great for funnels but not so much for website creation.

And WordPress is the other way around…

With that said, let’s get into it.

Addressing The Elephant In The Room

Before we do anything, let’s just talk about this elephant for a quick moment.

I think it’s safe to say that if you’re interested in online sales processes, lead generation, sales funnels, and sales optimization, you’ve probably heard about ClickFunnels (at least once).

Maybe you already are a user of ClickFunnels and you just love how you can use their platform to squeeze the most out of every visitor that goes through your funnel.

And if you’re a WordPress user, you know how much “fun” there is to try and recreate your ClickFunnels funnels inside of Elementor or Gutenberg.

Well, those days are now over my friend…

This post is going to cover exactly how you can use the WordPress plugin to integrate your funnels with your WordPress site to maximize your profits.

The only thing this post won’t cover is what ClickFunnels is. If you want to know that, then you’ll love this post.

Now, with the elephant fed, let’s get to it…

Adding the ClickFunnels WordPress Plugin to Your Website

Alright, you’re already addicted to ClickFunnels, but you also have a WordPress site where you regularly post awesome content.

Now it’s time to figure out how you can connect the dots between ClickFunnels and WordPress to get them to work together.

Here’s what you need to do first:

  1. From your WordPress dashboard, Find your way to Plugins and click Add New.
  2. Type ClickFunnels in the search bar (because it’s faster to search).
  3. Click Install Now once you find the ClickFunnels plugin. Just make sure it’s the one made by Etison, LLC.
  4. Once installed, click Activate and you’re done.

Initial plugin setting

With the ClickFunnels – WordPress plugin installed and activated, it’s time to make them talk to each other.

First you need to find the ClickFunnels plugin on the WordPress dashboard. If you start by looking in the left side menu, you’re off to a good start.

Second, you need to be loggen into your ClickFunnels account.

Here we go!

  1. Navigate to the plugin and click on Settings from the menu.
  2. Under API Connection, enter your ClickFunnels account email in the Account Email field.
  3. Head over to ClickFunnels and navigate to the Account Setting.
  4. Scroll to WordPress API and click on the little arrow to view the API key.
  5. Copy your WordPress API key.
  6. Go back to WordPress and paste the WordPress API key in the Authentication Token field.
  7. Click Save Settings.
  8. On the left, click on Compatibility Check and make sure that all settings are enabled.
  9. Now head over to the General Settings and make sure that the Page Display Method is set to Download & Display (this is optional, but I think the download and display gives the best user experience).
  10. For Favicon, decide if you want to use the ClickFunnels favicon or the WordPress favicon (I use WP so all pages/funnels look congruent).
  11. Add tracking code to Additional Tracking Snippet if you want. This is not something that I personally use.
  12. Hit Save Settings.
  • ClickFunnels WordPress plugin setup

Nice, you’ve officially and successfully connected ClickFunnels with WordPress.

Pretty easy, right?

Now you can start adding your ClickFunnels pages and sales funnels to WordPress.

Add a Funnel to Your ClickFunnels WordPress Plugin

With the integration completed, and the plugin enabled and ready to go, I believe that the time has come to add your first funnel to the plugin.

With this all setup, you can add any funnel step you want from your ClickFunnels account straight into your WordPress site.

And it doesn’t even take that long to do!

All you got to do is this:

  1. In the ClickFunnels menu, click on Add New. This will open the Page Settings.
  2. Go to the Choose Page Type dropdown menu and select Regular Page.
  3. Under Choose Funnel, select the funnel you wish to connect (this will show a dropdown of all your funnels in your account. If you have many funnels, navigate faster by typing the first letter of the funnel name.
  4. At Choose Step, you’ll get to pick out the funnel page/step in the funnel you’ve selected.
  5. Under Custom Slug you get to enter the slug you want for the page (this will be your page path that appears after your domain; i.e. www.awesomeness.com/slug).
  6. Click Save Page.
  • ClickFunnels WordPress plugin add new page

You’re done, your first ClickFunnels page inside of WordPress is created. Good job!

If you click on “Pages” you’ll now be able to see that your brand new page has appeared in the list of added pages.

Rinse and repeat for any other funnels that you want to use inside of your WordPress site.

By the way, if you want to edit a funnel you’ve added, look under “editor” in the overview and click on “Open in ClickFunnels”. This will take you directly to the ClickFunnels editor.

ClickFunnels Page as Your WordPress Homepage

You don’t even have to learn Elementor or Gutenberg to build a great looking homepage.

There is a much simpler way….

Use your existing ClickFunnels skills to build a homepage in their software and then use the plugin to display it on your website.

For some this is a great solution since you can use this to take your visitors directly to the next step of your funnel and use your pre-existing ClickFunnels autoresponder integration to collect leads, send emails, and build lists.

No more extra plugins and integrations for lead-generation and sales.

  1. Navigate to the ClickFunnels plugin and click on Add New.
  2. In page settings at Choose Page Type, select the Home Page option.
  3. At Choose Funnel, select the funnel you wish to connect (did you know that ClickFunnels has premade homepage funnel templates available for free).
  4. Under Choose Step, pick out the funnel page/step in the funnel you want. If it’s a homepage funnel, select the first page.
  5. Add a slug at Custom Slug if you want.
  6. Click Save Page.

Sweet, you’ve added your homepage funnel to WordPress.

Now all you have to do is to click preview inside of WordPress, this will display the front-page of you website which now is your ClickFunnels page.

Managing Your Pages

Okay, now that you have all your ClickFunnels pages added to the plugin, you need to know how to manage them.

There will come a time in life when you can you change something or remove a funnel or page completely.

Here’s how you do that:

  1. From your WordPress dashboard, navigate to the ClickFunnels plugin and click Pages.
  2. If you want to remove a page, check the box next to the page you wish to remove (you can mark as many pages as you want at the same time).
  3. From the Bulk Actions dropdown, select Move to Trash.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Want to edit a page instead? Click on the name of the page (this will open the Page Setting).
  6. Make the necessary changes from the next screen.
  7. Click Save Page.
  8. If you want to change some of the content in the funnel, click on the name of the page, then navigate to the top and click on Edit In ClickFunnels (this will open the editor).
  9. Once your done in the editor click on Save and the funnel will automatically update itself inside of WordPress.

ClickFunnels WordPress Plugin Shortcodes

There are also a few extra features inside the plugin that can come in handy every once in a while.

These are features that can help you with lead generation, without having to install any extra plugins or do advanced coding.

However, you’ll need to be able to add shortcodes, but that’s really not a big problem since WordPress has build in blocks for this.

So all you really need to know is how to use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V and you’re good to go.

Embed code

Ever wondered how to make those fancy subscription froms in the middle of a blog post?

Or how to add a full width lead magnet at the top of each post.

Well here is one solution for that. By using the build in embed code feature inside the ClickFunnels plugin.

Here’s how:

  1. From your WordPress dashboard, navigate to the ClickFunnels plugin and click “Shortcodes”.
  2. Inside the </> Shortcode Generator menu, select Embed Code.
  3. Choose the funnel you want to embed under Choose Funnel.
  4. Under Choose Page, select the page you want to display.
  5. Set the height of the content box with Height of Iframe (this can take a bit of trial and error to make sure that all of the content inside the funnel is visible).
  6. Select if you want your visitors to be able to scroll inside the funnel with Allow Page Scrolling (I personally don’t like to have scrolling enabled, especially on side menus since that doesn’t look good at all).
  7. Copy the shortcode from Blog Embed Shortcode and paste it inside a shortcode block on a blog post or page.
  8. Save and update the page (always do a preview and make sure that it looks good. If not, tweak the Height of Iframe or change the funnel layout inside ClickFunnels).

ClickPop

Want to display a popup or a exit intent popup that is connected to a funnel?

Then the ClickPop can be something for you.

With this you can for instance display a timed delayed popup (you know, the one we all love to encounter when we’re crusin’ the internet).

Or you could show a popup every time someone tries to leave your site, to try and catch some leads before they leave.

Note: I have experienced some “bugginess” using this function. This might however be fixed by the time you use it.

Here’s how to add it:

  1. Go to the ClickFunnels plugin and click Shortcodes.
  2. Now select ClickPop from the menu to the left.
  3. Choose the funnel you want to use under Choose Funnel.
  4. Under Choose Page, select the page you want to display.
  5. If you want your popup to show at exit, select Enable from the dropdown at Show on Mouse Exit. Otherwise leave it disabled.
  6. If you want it to show the popup after a specific time, enter a number in the field below Timed Popup Delayed. If not leave empty.
  7. Copy the shortcode from ClickPop Shortcode and paste it inside a shortcode block.

To quote ClickFunnels: Copy and paste the shortcode onto any blog post you want the ClickPop link to appear on. If you have show on exit, you can leave the content blank. You can also surround the shortcode with any content in your blog such as images, everything inside the [] code will be a ClickPop link.

ClickForms

This is one of my favorite shortcodes.

With this you can generate a email optin form with a simple email address input and a submit button anywhere onw your website (and it’s connected to your funnel).

So use this kind of power with caution!

  1. Go to the ClickFunnels plugin and click Shortcodes.
  2. Select ClickForms from the menu to the left.
  3. Choose the funnel you want to use under Choose Funnel (the funnel must have a valid integration setup for it to work).
  4. Under Choose Page, select the page you want to display (the funnel will not be displayed, but the information will be submitted to the chosen funnel integration).
  5. If you want to add a custom text to the input field, add it at Placeholder Text (the default text is: “Enter Your Email Address Here”).
  6. Add your own text to the button at Button Text.
  7. Under Button Color you can change the color of the button (there are only 5 to choose from sadly).
  8. At Redirect on Submit you can decide if you want the next page of the funnel to be displayed in the same page or in a new tab (I like to use New Tab function, it looks better in my mind).
  9. If you want an envelope icon, select Show Envelope Icon under Input Icon.
  10. Copy the shortcode from ClickOptin Shortcode and paste it inside a shortcode block on any page or post.
  11. Update the page/post and do a preview.

When setup correctly, you’ll see a input field with a button below it. This field is directly linked to the funnel you selected in the step above.

Conclusion

I think it’s about time that I answer the most obvious question now.

“Does ClickFunnels work with WordPress?”

The short answer is: Yes!

The long answer: Yes it does, and it’s not that hard to set up even if you haven’t worked with simple coding before.

With that said, I think it’s time to wrap things up.
