Hello, I’m Marcus writing to you from somewhere in the middle of Sweden.
Let’s rewind the clock a bunch of years right away and discover where I come from. Who knows maybe we have the same background…?
Back in school I was not any sort of cool kid or part of the sporty clique, in fact I was a die hard metal/punk rocker. Leather jackets, chains, mohawk, the complete kit.
And life was all about hanging with my little group of like-minded friends, partying, listening to music and fiddle with cars. Because yes, I bought my first project car when I was 14, so there’s that too.
As you can see, I had a lot of things going on at once.
However, even though I loved the punk lifestyle and the music, the fact was that I were a nerd in school. I always studied hard and had good grades.
What a combination. What’s next, pineapple on pizza (oh yes please)…
Fast forward a bit and I graduated school as an electrical engineer and got to work right away as a programmer.
At this time, my car building addiction was growing fast, and I don’t know how much you know about building cars, but it’s hella expensive.
So it was time to climb the corporate ladder a bit.
This time it was traveling industrial technician targeting the CNC industry.
And boy did I love the new paycheck, but the hours wasn’t in line with my life goals.
Now I was traveling all the time, staying in hotels 5 nights a week.
Meaning no time over for cars, hobbies, friends and relationships, it’s actually quite a lonely lifestyle.
This was the first time that the idea of starting my own business came to mind. Bear in mind, I was 25 at the time and this idea haven’t crossed my mind even once before.
But what do I start that can give me more money and more freedom….?
E-Commerce, SMMA, drop shipping, what path should I choose?
I looked into blogging, but…me…blogging…pfff, I’m way too cool and punk for that…
I mean, only girls talking about life do blogging…right?
Hell no, I was surprised to see that people were making serious money with blogs.
So I decided to start a blog, namely TheLifestyleOverload.
Keep in mind that I was no writer, nor have I written any online content before. I knew exactly nothing about blogging or business for that matter.
But in the spirit of Jeremy Clarkson, “How hard can it be?”
So I quit my well paid job to start a blog, thinking it could make me rich within six months, give or take.
Did that happened, let’s find out…
Starting blogging is hard, to say the least, just coming up with a business name took me way too long, and honestly, in hind sight I could have come up with something better that what I currently have.
But it is what it is, it’s the content on it that is important.
Okay, I’m starting a blog now, so might as well figure out how to monetize it right away. Naturally I choose affiliate marketing because that’s simple, right…?
It wasn’t….
It didn’t help that I had no experience with sales of any kind, I was used to repair things like industrial equipment, and I was good at it.
But a blog monetized with affiliate marketing, I was terrible at it, yes terrible and that’s my honest opinion.
So I needed a course or two, luckily for me there are tons of those so let’s try some…
This gave me a variety of approaches to affiliate marketing and blogging.
First out was to place ads for affiliate products, which I tired for a while. How much did I make, I actually lost about $25K on this so…good investment, I have my doubts.
Today, I know that this route is not something beginners shouldn’t start with because it’s hard to make it profitable without some experience.
Next, I tired to create a course and sell it on my site and well, without some credibility backed up by your site, you won’t sell much at all.
Total profit now $7.95, awesome, only $24.992.05 to brake even.
With a fair amount of money out of pocket and little to no made in the last seven months, I was getting desperate.
My “starting a business bank account” was draining really fast now and I was getting desperate.
The last thing I wanted was to go back to a “regular” job…
So out of desperation I was recommended to try the “fake it till’ you make it” strategy…
Did it work…hell no, the ones who suggests such a strategy should not be allowed to suggest anything to anyone.
I tried this for another year, pushing my bank account to beyond extinction.
Now, broke and honestly, a bit fed up with blogging, I had to find myself a regular job again.
In my mind I saw this failure as punishment for not working hard enough on making my blog profitable.
And let me tell you a thing about going back to a 9-to-5 after having all the freedom at your fingertips.
It was like going to prison (or at least what I could imagine prison life is like).
Waking up to an alarm again, driving half an hour only to be stuck at a job from eight hours…
Any sensible person would probably have quit this blogging thing at this time, but not me.
I mean, I have 10.000+ hours invested in this site and throwing it all away would hurt more than keeping it going and make it work.
Because it must work, other people are doing it so why can’t I…no, can’t accept that.
But with a day job now, time was limited to 3 hours on weekdays and 10-12 hours on weekends.
That makes a huge difference when you’re used to 12 hours a day 7 days a week.
But giving up is not an alternative, even though I was tired, this site was a passion project which I have grown to love.
But how do I learn blogging when courses didn’t do much more that confuse me and drain my bank account.
Then I remembered something a mentor of mine said at a personal development mastermind event. (Yes, I was, and still is interested in developing myself and becoming the best person I can become).
He said, learn the concepts of a thing and then develop your own methods of working. Copying how other people work rarely work because you are not them and it always shines through.
Be authentic to who you are and work with what makes you unique.
So, I decided to go my own way and learn how to make this blog profitable on my own.
No more courses, now I was gonna break down what others were doing successfully into concepts I could apply to my blog.
I was gonna do my own thing and just be my authentic self. Praising those who’d follow me and not care about the haters who said I did everything wrong.
I was determined to learn this “blogging business” thing once and for all, using myself and my unique angle as the main pillar.
No more being a “fake”, no more being this annoying sales person who practically forces people to join my list, buy my offer or whatever it might be.
My focus shifted from “getting rich quick” to actually learning how to start and grow a business online.
And it started to work…
People started to actually read my content, comment on it and even join my list.
This pushed me to work even harder for my audience, for you, and I managed to take my business to new heights with simple self-developed methods and by being authentic and genuine.
Imagine that, being myself actually worked. I’m as surprised as you are right now.
With this newfound traction, I started to change what this site meant to me. I started with lifestyle, got greedy and desperate and wanted to get rich quick and now I want to help others who struggle with the same situation.
The new mantra became ” How do I start an online business with limited time, not a ton of cash, and without having all the knowledge”.
Because I got sick and tired of hearing about all of these so called strategies that relies on expensive tools or pre-existing sales skills.
And trust me, I’ve tried many “this is the best strategy” strategies only to have them fall short on an expensive tool I could not afford or actually having a solid sales game (which I didn’t have).
I wanted to help people, like you, to build a life of freedom and of passion in a way that opened the door for anyone to try the online business lifestyle.
I wanted a to share a way to start and grow a business (not just a blog) that wasn’t fueled by hating your daily 9-to-5 work (like may other “gurus” focus on).
Now this “doing things my way” strategy is in full steam ahead mode and this site the proof of that.
So if you want to learn more about sales funnels, email marketing, AI, online business, lifestyle, and in general just have a good time, then you’ve come to the right place.
Here’s the truth – Building my online business and digital lifestyle has become a passion project of mine as you maybe can see.
And sure I have goals that I’m trying to achieve just like anyone else. One of them are to be able to not having to wake up to an alarm-clock each morning.
After all, I’m only human…
Another goals of mine is to help as many people as I can.
If the content and concepts I share here can help you develop a way of working that takes your business to new height, then awesome, I’m glad I could help.
Okay, I thinks it’s about time to wrap things up now, I’m running out of space anyway…
